This coming Saturday the Las Cruces Fire Department will be hosting it’s final public agility workshop starting at 12pm. It will be held at the Training Tower, located right next to the airport, at 9201 Zia Blvd, Las Cruces. The workshop is a great opportunity to go out and experience first hand the physical demands required to pass and begin a Fire Academy. It’s a great way to test your fitness in a realistic hands on setting. I think it would be great if we could have a big turnout of some of our members, giving it a shot and seeing how they do with the events presented to them. Some of the things you will have to do will be various fire hose drags, a dummy drag, and ascend a stairway while wearing both an air pack and a hose pack. The events are fun and it’s a quick but tough workout! Again, this workshop is open to anyone in the public as well as anyone that is interested in pursuing a career in the fire service. I will be there helping out, and so will Francis our most recent nutrition challenge winner. Mark your calendars and make some time, I hope to see you all there!
Another opportunity to take your fitness outside the gym and put it to good use is the Cupid’s Chase 5K, held at the Old Mesilla Plaza, 2114 Calle de Santiago on February 10th starting at 9am. This would be a fun run to do with as many CFLC members as we can get! It’s for a great cause and let’s face it, we can all stand to run a little more! I’ve created a team under CrossFit Las Cruces for us all to join. Simply go to the website, click on “join a team”, then “join as a new participant”, then click the button on the right that says “search for a team” and you’ll find us. It’s time to get out there and put all of this fitness to use! The link to register is here: http://imatter.comop.org/site/TR?fr_id=1522&pg=entry
